Freedom can be confining
Today we were at The Junction church, and a woman spoke about her missionary involvement in China with the underground church. They often can't sing in their churches for fear of being found. At the close of the gathering the leader said, "We have so many freedoms here. Let's read our Bibles for those that cannot read. Let's sing for those who cannot sing in China." Then we sang these words: "You are the everlasting God, You do not faint, You won't grow weary. You're the Defender of the weak. You comfort those in need. You lift us up on wings like eagles." So beautiful....to think of others at the "ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8), and yet humbling to think of our lives here and how much we have, but take for granted. Sometimes our freedom can be confining... and oppression can be liberating. Those people are persecuted, yet the church has scattered and grown to 8 million "underground" Christians in China. We serve an awesome God.

It is perplexing, isn't it? He's good ALL the time -no matter how things look. Some of my closest times to Him have been at the lowest times in my life. Funny how that works.

It is so humbling to see how the majority of Christians have to live in this world. We are lucky for the opportunities, though scarce, to have them show us a truer, more devoted, more Christ-like form of Christianity...
